L'attore italiano Michele Morrone debutta in India nel video promozionale del brano Mud Mud Ke, affiancando Jacqueline Fernandez. La canzone è composta da Tony Kakkar, e interpretata da Tony e Neha Kakkar. Il filmato è stato girato a Dubai. Michele ha dichiarato: 'I'm grateful for such a heartfelt welcome. I'm aware that the music of India has a wide reach and it defines the nation's heritage. It is truly an honour to be part of the music industry that has entertained listeners across the globe.' Jacqueline ha dichiarato: 'It's wonderful to be welcoming Michele Morrone to India with 'Mud Mud Ke'. As the nation's musical identity is changing and the world is getting smaller, it is fitting to have Michele join us.'

A brief history of Bella Ciao

'I heard it [Bella Ciao] (...) in the various Indian iterations, during the CAA/NRC protests [proteste contro il Citizenship Amendment Act]. In the #OccupyGateway gathering, one of the protestors stood and sang the new lyrics, written to fit the issue at hand, (...) and the others, seated, sang after him. (...)

Unsurprisingly, I am hearing Bella Ciao more and more without the context. Baba Sehgal has done one, called Kela Khao, so silly that you can't be offended by it. Ayushmann (...) Khurrana plays the tune on his piano. (...) Actress Kriti Kharbanda also attempted a piano cover and uploaded a video. (...) 

Then you had Shah Rukh Khan. (...) In his segment shot from home for a fundraising concert for the COVID-19 outbreak, Khan sang that he is sick of hearing Bella Ciao. (...) He meant it as one of the typically Quarantine things, equating it to activities such as working out and watching TV shows on streaming. Given the significance of the song - a symbol of common people speaking up against an oppressive regime - this appeared insensitive to some. (...) The lyrics for Khan were written by Badshah. (...)

Bollywood has been guilty of bastardising Bella Ciao even before it had become so popular in this part of the world. Lalit Pandit (of Jatin-Lalit) plagiarised the tune in "Love ki Ghanti" from the movie Besharam, starring Ranbir Kapoor. There is also a Telugu song called "Pilla Chao" from the Mahesh Babu film Businessman. They are cringeworthy'.

Aggiornamento del 26 agosto 2021: Netflix India propone Jaldi Aao!, versione di Bella Ciao rivisitata dal produttore musicale Nucleya e interpretata, fra gli altri, da Shruti Haasan, Anil Kapoor, Rana Daggubati, Radhika Apte e Vikrant Massey. Il video è stato realizzato per promuovere la quinta stagione della serie La casa di carta. Oggi The Hindu pubblica un'intervista concessa da Nucleya:

 

'Nucleya is all smiles as he gushes over Jaldi Aao: The Money Heist Fan Anthem, which he composed ahead of the new season of Spanish-language crime series La Casa De Papel or Money Heist dropping. The track and video (...) has picked up more than 5 million views since its August 23 upload on YouTube. (...) The anti-fascist protest song is from the early 20th Century, and is sung by Italians every year on April 25 to observe Liberation Day, the anniversary of the end of the Nazi occupation in 1945. Over the years through history, there have been many iterations. During the 2020 lockdowns, Italians took to the empty streets and their balconies, belting out the song as a collective and comforting experience, building upon its status as a revolutionary anthem. (...) It was important to Nucleya that Jaldi Aao retained that recognisable melody while adding various elements to it to make it more Indian audience-friendly. “That composition has that [revolutionary] feel to it because of the original song’s lyrics, but we wanted it to sound fresh. I think we did a pretty good job,” he laughs. (...) The rebooted song has a mix of Tamil, Hindi and Telugu lyrics and singing styles to suit the different Indian regional fanbases. As a composer, the core melody had to work with these new elements to make the song feel less forced. Nucleya explains, “The core structure and melody stay the same throughout but what changes is the voice, which gives Jaldi Aao the flavour it needs. For example, at the Tamil part, everything goes deeper with full South Indian drums, and towards the end of the video, there’s a scene where drums are played in the streets of Mumbai and it feels very Maharashtrian. The melody, though, stitches everything tight together”.'

War: le riprese in Italia

[Archivio] Yash Raj Films e il regista Siddharth Anand sono tornati a girare in Italia. Questa volta si tratta di War, adrenalinica pellicola d'azione interpretata da Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff e Vaani Kapoor. I blindatissimi set sono stati allestiti nella prima quindicina di ottobre 2018 tra Minori, Amalfi, Capri e Positano (Spiaggia Grande), Matera e lago di Como (Bellagio, Mandarin Oriental di Blevio, centro di Moltrasio). Le prime dell'8 febbraio 2019: The Fakir of Venice

Dopo ben dieci anni di attesa, è stato finalmente distribuito nelle sale il film d'esordio di Farhan Akhtar attore, The Fakir of Venice, in larga parte ambientato a Venezia. Il regista è Anand Surapur. Nel cast anche Annu Kapoor e la nostra Valentina Carnelutti. La colonna sonora è firmata da A.R. Rahman. Vi propongo il trailer e il video del brano Wako Naam Fakir. Il soggetto, di Homi Adajania, ha una genesi piuttosto curiosa. Nel 1999 Homi collaborò alla realizzazione di Mother, un'installazione artistica di Maurizio Cattelan presentata alla Biennale Arte di Venezia. Suo era il compito di condurre in laguna un fachiro indiano (!). Ovviamente era impossibile convincere un vero santone, così il nostro ingaggiò un impostore. Da qui la trama di The Fakir of Venice. Il personaggio interpretato da Farhan si ispira allo stesso Homi. Quanto a Mother, Cattelan seppellì il fachiro nella sabbia per tre ore; emergevano solo le mani, giunte in segno di preghiera.

Amavas: le riprese in Italia

[Archivio] A fine giugno di quest'anno la troupe di Amavas era in Italia per girare alcune sequenze. I set sono stati allestiti a Venezia, a Garda e a Montecchio Maggiore (Castelli di Giulietta e Romeo). Le fotografie che vi propongo sono state scattate a Montecchio. Il film è diretto da Bhushan Patel e interpretato da Sachiin Joshi e Nargis Fakhri. Video dei brani Jab Se Mera Dil, Dhadkan e Bheege Bheege.

Made in India: le riprese in Italia

[Archivio] Fra aprile e maggio di quest'anno, il cantante e compositore Guru Randhawa era in Italia per la realizzazione del video del brano Made in India. Ad affiancarlo l'attrice di origine iraniana Elnaaz Norouzi. Le riprese sono state effettuate a Milano (piazza Duomo e Arco della Pace) e a Lecco (lungolago di Malgrate, piazza XX Settembre, via Roma e centro storico). Alla regia Director Gifty.

Contro Isis la musica di Bollywood

Vi segnalo l'articolo Contro Isis la musica di Bollywood, di Marta Serafini, pubblicato dal Corriere della Sera il 3 giugno 2016:

'Le chiamano operazioni di psychological warfare, guerra psicologica. Tecniche di disturbo impiegate per far innervosire il nemico e per diminuire la sua forza di propaganda. Secondo i quotidiani di Londra, le SBS, le forze speciali britanniche, e i Jsoc statunitensi stanno utilizzando un nuovo sistema contro i jihadisti. Chiave di volta per far saltare i nervi agli uomini del Califfato è la musica di Bollywood, già messa al bando dai talebani perché considerate blasfema. Risultato, accade che a Sirte, in Libia, dove i jihadisti hanno imposto la sharia (vietando tra le altre cose la musica), da automobili con altoparlanti piazzate vicino ai checkpoint di Isis partano all’improvviso delle canzoni hindu riprodotte a tutto volume. Orario preferito per «iniziare le danze», all’alba mentre i miliziani dormono. Ma non solo. Sulla scia delle operazioni di cyberwarfare lanciate in Libia di recente (...) i militari riescono a inserirsi nelle conversazioni via radio dei jihadisti e, anche in questo caso, fanno partire le canzoni con l’obiettivo di innervosire e disorientare il nemico. «Sono misure che stanno funzionando», ha dichiarato una fonte militare al Mirror. Che ha aggiunto: «Abbiamo anche studiato i loro tempi di reazione nell’individuare la fonte della musica, analizzando i loro punti deboli».' 

Le prime del 30 ottobre 2015: Main Aur Charles

Questo sì che è uno di quei ruoli per cui qualunque attore farebbe carte false. Avete letto la biografia in Wikipedia del serial killer di origini indiane Charles Sobhraj? Un noir da brivido, con tutte le carte in regola per suscitare l'interesse di romanzieri e sceneggiatori: alta società, glamour, località esotiche, donne avvenenti, gioielli preziosi, truffe, rocambolesche evasioni e brutali omicidi. E quale attore indiano potrebbe interpretare in un film un personaggio così fascinoso, carismatico e demoniaco? Facile: il conturbante Randeep Hooda. Ci ha pensato anche Prawaal Raman, il regista dell'acclamato thriller 404 del 2011. Il suo Main Aur Charles potrebbe essere la pellicola rivelazione dell'anno, considerando anche che il main (io in hindi - aur significa e) del titolo è l'ottimo Adil Hussain, nel ruolo di Amod Kanth, l'investigatore che si occupò del caso (nonché delle indagini sull'assassinio di Rajiv Gandhi e di Jessica Lal - ricordate il film No one killed Jessica?). Un'accoppiata davvero stellare. Trailer. La colonna sonora non è niente male. Ne sono prova i brani Neeli Bullet, Jab Chaye Mera Jadoo (quest'ultimo è una moderna versione di Jab Chaye Mera Jadoo, di Rajesh Roshan - zio di Hrithik Roshan -, tratto da Lootmaar, pellicola del 1980 diretta e interpretata da Dev Anand), Ya Rabba e Woh Tho Yahin Hai Lekin. L'articolo contiene le controverse dichiarazioni rilasciate dall'attore all'indomani del suo incontro, in una prigione nepalese, con il vero Charles (Hooda, comunque, aveva incontrato anche il vero Kanth):

'Talk about the details of your meeting?

I had gone dressed looking myself and not dressed as Charles, so when he saw me he could not recognise till I told him, 'I am the guy who plays Charles.' He looked at me with a long silence and then gave me a thumbs up. I had heard from our sources that he had seen the trailer of our film on his TV there and had liked it. We wanted to present him the poster of the movie. But he had not only already seen the poster, but had already put it up on the wall of the jail. (...) He told us how seeing the trailer, he felt that the film was a great quality product and seeing it, he felt nostalgic about his young life. He told us how it needed guts for producers to make a film like this and he applauded Prawaal Raman for capturing it right. He was specially very high on the fact that I could portray him so correctly. He asked me, 'Where did you get my speech and mannerisms?' I said, 'Out of your available footage.' He said, 'Spot on.' (...) He requested for a screening of the movie after it releases not only for himself, but also for all his 3,000 inmates. He asked me whether it would be possible. I said, 'Yes. We will need to take permission but we will try our best.' (...)

How do you feel having met him?

I am so happy meeting him. It was such a surreal experience for me. He was everything larger than life that I had expected him to be. He was surrounded by security and a lot of his young boys that he pampers and he was all like enthusiastic about meeting us. I thought he was so full of life, almost virile. He is still such a handsome man. Even at the age of 72, he has his aura fully intact.

Has he sent any message?

He sent his salaam to Amod Kanth. He complimented us for choosing to portray this part of his life, which he said was very interesting. He also said that once he was out of jail, he would like to meet Prawaal and me to share more interesting stories about his life, which could mean more sequels to his story'.

'Talk about your journey of becoming an actor?

I come from a town of Assam called Goalpara. (...) I started acting (both in English and Assamese) from when I was seven and would participate in my school plays every year. It was when I was in Class VIII that I decided that I wanted to be an actor. (...) The most important part of acting for me was how I enjoyed acting. My father was a headmaster of a high secondary school and could not afford to pay for my learning to act. But then, I came to know about NSD [National School of Drama], possibly the only institution in the world that pays you to learn. (...) I was already doing regional television and films at the age of 17, post which I joined NSD. Post NSD, I got a scholarship to learn acting in England, post which I returned to India to train again for nine years before I did my first play In Othello. (...) The play was made into a film that was just released in Europe for the festivals. I then got my first big Hindi break in (...) Ishqiya. (...)

I think 1998 was both my lowest or you could say, my highest period. I met and fell in love with this woman in Amsterdam while I was studying there, who was half Dutch and half Indian. I was planning to move to India to train in acting with my teacher in a place that did not have electricity or running water. I knew it would be difficult for her to stay with me in such conditions but she insisted and we moved to India. She brought out the worst in me and while till then I had been this nice, friendly and helpful guy who never shouted at anybody ever, I got introduced and exposed to my other side, the mad, angry side. And while I am grateful to her for showing me that side of me that nobody likes of themselves, I went through an emotional turmoil to the point of almost losing my mind. (...)

Your wife Kristen too is half Indian. What makes you fall in love with half Indians?

Yes, my wife Kristen is half Jain and half American. I realised much later that I am a mixed Indian myself as my maternal grandfather was from Iraq and maternal grandmother, a mix of Assamese, English and Italian so may be somewhere that explains my attraction to women who were half Indians. (...)

Do you have friends in the film industry? (...)

Randeep Hooda is a friend who would stand by me. He is very honest and upfront and says what he feels within. He is not like me and would not care what people would think about it. That's an important quality as an actor, as a good actor is about being clean. He's a very good and sensitive actor. (...)

What made you play the role of Amod Kanth in Main Aur Charles? (...)

I have met Amod Kanth in real life and I love the conviction he has to do whatever he does. He is the most honest man I have ever met. (...) I love Amod Kanth's integrity, his conviction, his responsibility to society that is so inspiring and rare these days'.

Bajirao Mastani: locandine, trailer e video

Sanjay Leela Bhansali tornerà ad incantarci il 18 dicembre 2015 con la distribuzione di Bajirao Mastani, sontuoso film in costume interpretato da Deepika Padukone e Ranveer Singh. La pellicola si ispira alla vita di Bajirao I, monarca, generale e primo ministro di religione hindu del quarto imperatore dell'impero maratha (siamo nel diciottesimo secolo). La danzatrice Mastani, di religione musulmana, è la sua seconda moglie. Nel film, il ruolo di Kashibai, la prima moglie del protagonista, è toccato a Priyanka Chopra. Bhansali firma anche la colonna sonora. Un assaggio nel magnifico brano Deewani Mastani, visualizzato in modo splendido, e in Pinga. Il trailer è accattivante quanto un cortometraggio. Una curiosità: in passato sono state prodotte ben due serie televisive in lingua marathi imperniate sulle figure di Bajirao I e di Mastani. 

Le prime del 9 ottobre 2015: Jazbaa

Per milioni di fan in tutto il mondo l'attesa è durata cinque lunghi anni. La Diva torna finalmente sul grande schermo, e col botto, con Jazbaa, il nuovo film di Sanjay Gupta. Aishwarya Rai è la protagonista di questo thriller al femminile dai risvolti drammatici e ricco di scene d'azione, remake hindi della pellicola sudcoreana del 2007 Se-Beun De-I-Jeu (titolo internazionale Seven Days). Ad affiancarla il mitico Irrfan Khan (occhio alla salivazione). Vi propongo il video di Bollywood Hungama della presentazione del trailer, evento a cui hanno partecipato il regista, Aishwarya e Irrfan.
